Brexit

Simon Clarke is committed to delivering the best possible Brexit deal for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland. With two-thirds of residents supporting Britain's exit from the European Union, the opportunities that Brexit provides for our area are huge, and Simon has pledged to ensure these opportunities are grasped.  He wants to see a liberal, free-trading Britain emerge after Brexit, with our laws made in Westminster and our borders controlled by the UK Government.

The video above shows Simon speaking about Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland and Brexit during the EU WIthdrawal Bill debate in the House of Commons (September 2017).

Labour's U-turn on free movement

Monday, 1 April, 2019

Labour are guilty of the most appalling deception on freedom of movement. Despite promising they would end it, tonight they are whipping in favour of a Norway type deal, where free movement would continue. They are also whipping in favour of a second referendum.

My votes on Brexit

Thursday, 14 March, 2019

I want to provide you with an update on my votes this week.

Yesterday I voted against removing No Deal from the table. This is clearly a terrible idea and would deprive us of all negotiating leverage.

Labour's Position on Brexit

Tell Corbyn you don't want a Second Referendum

Wednesday, 13 March, 2019

Being an MP is a matter of taking decisions and honouring your promises. Last night, as promised, I voted against the Withdrawal Agreement. As the Attorney General’s own very honest advice made clear, the potential for our being trapped by the EU in the backstop had not been solved.

It’s been a really important two days in Parliament with Brexit, and I share my thoughts in a short video below. Please WATCH and SHARE as it’s so important people understand where we are.

Next steps on Brexit and tonight's (minor) drama

Thursday, 14 February, 2019

I’ve written for The Gazette about why I’m standing up for Brexit, the type of deal we need to fight for and why we must keep “no deal” on the table. You can read the article here.

Why Corbyn's demand for a Customs Union would be so damaging

Friday, 8 February, 2019

Labour are demanding that the U.K. must stay in a customs union with the EU. It’s important to set out why this is such a bad idea.

Brexit update and my question to the Prime Minister today

Wednesday, 30 January, 2019

Last night Parliament voted that the Prime Minister should return to the EU to fix the backstop. We need serious changes to the draft Withdrawal Agreement that are legally binding, and that is what she has pledged to seek.
