Meeting Mary Lannigan

I really welcome the way that local people used May’s local elections to vote for positive change. I will be meeting new Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston soon, and sat down last week with the new Leader of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Mary Lanigan.

We talked about shared priorities like reopening a police station in Loftus, and how we will take this up with the Police and Crime Commissioner. We also discussed issues including how we could extend the TransPennine Express Trains service into East Cleveland and improve bus connectivity.

There’s lots to work on and I look forward to working with councillors from all parties and none to deliver improvements for our community.

Connecting our communities

Simon wants to improve connectivity in our area in all its different forms, from tackling poor internet quality in Coulby Newham to ending the culture of neglect that has seen some of East Cleveland's towns like Loftus abandoned and ignored for far too long.

Delivering Jobs and Growth

The South Tees Mayoral Development Corporation will transform the Teesside economy. I am lobbying ministers hard to ensure we receive the funding needed to clear up the former SSI site.

Improving our Road & Rail Connections

I am working hard to secure investment to tackle the Marton Crawl. I am also campaigning to extend the Manchester Airport railway service to Saltburn.

More Police on Our Streets

There is real concern about crime - particularly in rural East Cleveland. I am working with our new Chief Constable to ensure more police are freed up to be where they want to be: on the front line.
