Yesterday I argued in favour of improving access to medical cannabis oils to help treat youngsters living with severe epilepsy. I’ve had some very powerful meetings with the parents of children who can fit dozens of times a day at my surgery over the last two years. They are understandably desperate for any treatment that can ease the unnecessary suffering of their children.
We are currently in a chicken and egg situation where although the Government rightly changed the law last November to allow the prescribing of medical cannabis, because there is a lack of data showing the positive effects, so far very few prescriptions have been issued. The Health Secretary Matt Hancock is working urgently to address this.
