Caterpillar's plant at Skinningrove is one of the great underappreciated success stories of our area. This autumn marks 20 years since it opened, and it has produced 22 million track shoes for heavy machinery in that time, using steel produced right next door by British Steel.
I visited on Friday to hear from Managing Director Neil Anderson and his team how business is booming: they are running at 100% capacity and hope to expand further. Caterpillar has delivered huge investment, including an £8 million automated production line in the last three years.
The plant is an integral part of the Caterpillar business and has now doubled employment to 82 people. Its exports stretch from North America to Australia - all from our part of the East Coast. It helps our area remain an industrial giant, and we should all be proud of it.
