Theresa May's visit to Guisborough last week capped off an excellent day in which she launched the South Tees Mayoral Development Corporation established by Ben Houchen, Mayor of the Tees Valley, and led by some of the best and most experienced people on Teesside.
The MDC will oversee an area of 4,500 acres, which includes the site of the former SSI steelworks in Redcar, and access to one of the UK’s largest deep water ports. As Mike Hughes' excellent article in the Evening Gazette sets out, it has "life changing" possibilities for our area.
Simon said, "I see the energy and enthusiasm of local businesses week in and week out across Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland. The launch of the Mayoral Development Corporation marks a whole new and very welcome chapter in our area's history. This initiative has unparalleled support from the very top of Government, and I encourage everyone to get behind it and make it a success story, showcasing all that Teesside has to offer."
