Liam Hibbins from Skelton-in-Cleveland was only 26 when he was killed on the Coast Road in Redcar last autumn, leaving behind his family and fiancée, Beth. Out of this appalling tragedy has come something positive - the #LightupforLiam campaign.
Liam's family and friends have joined up with the great local charity RoadPeace and the Police and Crime Commissioner to raise funding for reflective road safety snap bands along with glow in the dark rubber wrist bands.
I was delighted to join them and Longbeck Councillor Steve Turner at the launch event this week to help publicise their availability. The snap and wrist bands will be distributed by local groups including Street Pastors, Street Angels and Redcar Beacons to people on nights out. I will talk to local heads to ask them to make them available to their pupils as dark mornings and nights approach again.
I will also be issuing the snap bands from my office at 11 Rectory Lane, Guisborough TS14 7DJ and you are very welcome to pop in during office hours from this week onwards!
