Guisborough General Hospital has been in the news a lot recently and I'm really pleased that our local health chiefs have emphasised their plans for the redevelopment work remain unchanged despite this summer's delay.
Nonetheless, I will leave nothing to chance and so I asked to meet the Health Secretary Matt Hancock this week to ensure he is fully aware just how important these services are to all of us. Under the last Labour government, key services like the maternity unit were cut in 2002 and the same mustn't happen again.
It was a really positive meeting and the Secretary of State is up to speed on the situation. I will be meeting his deputy, Steve Barclay MP, next week for further talks and look forward to meeting the Clinical Commissioning Group again this autumn. We all want to see the same thing, a better hospital at Guisborough, and this issue is now firmly on the Government's radar.
Please express your support for ensuring the works at Guisborough are delivered in full, and to help the NHS crack down on avoidable waste, by SIGNING my pledge.
