An Update on Meynell Avenue

Thank you to everyone who has taken an interest in the issue of the tree clearance off Meynell Avenue in Guisborough this spring. Today I have written to the owner's solicitors again, together with your Councillors Graham Jeffery, Malcolm Griffiths and Caroline Jackson.

Defending Our Steelworkers

While new ownership is sought for British Steel, the overwhelming priority of everyone is to keep its plants open and people in work, and that was my message in Parliament this afternoon.

The announcement that British Steel has placed itself into insolvency is an absolute hammer-blow for steel workers and their families. My number one priority is to ensure a sustainable future for the operations at Skinningrove and Lackenby.

We all know the crucial importance of the British Steel Special Profiles business to the East Cleveland economy. It’s a great plant staffed by highly skilled and dedicated workers, and works hand-in-glove with the Caterpillar factory next door, which is its primary customer.

Happy 150th Birthday to Saltburn pier

Huge congratulations to everyone involved with Saltburn Pier as we celebrate its 150th birthday this weekend! There are events all day, starting at 10am.

The Pier has only been maintained and improved to reach this huge Birthday thanks to the love and hard work of lots of local people.

Important update on Laurence Jackson School

Parents and pupils across Guisborough will be concerned this morning about Ofsted’s report on Laurence Jackson School.

I have arranged to meet the Head Teacher and Chairman of Governors next Friday, as well as Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
