I'm delighted that some younger residents have come forward to stand as Conservative candidates in the upcoming local elections. A group of councillors from different generations helps ensure that everyone’s needs are considered.
Caroline Jackson - Conservative Councillor Hutton Ward is currently Redcar & Cleveland’s youngest Conservative councillor. A partner in her own dental practice, Caroline has been a strong voice for Hutton ward’s residents since her election in 2016, making a huge effort to ensure that resident’s views are considered when planning applications are made in the ward. Caroline is also passionate about employment and training opportunities available to our area’s young people, and has been supporting Ben Houchen - Tees Valley Mayor’s work in this area.
Jacob Young has represented Coulby Newham on Middlesbrough Council but having recently moved to Saltburn-by-the-Sea he is now standing to represent his new home. Jacob works in the petrochemical industry on the Wilton site, and having benefitted from an apprenticeship himself is passionate about high quality vocational training. He has already thrown himself into seaside life, engaging with local issues including recent changes to parking restrictions.
Wheatlands ward candidate Jade has been involved with politics since the age of 16, getting involved with Vote Leave during the 2016 EU referendum and going on to appear in The Mighty Redcar whilst campaigning in the 2017 General Election. Redcar born and bred, Jade is passionate about her hometown and currently volunteers with young people as well as supporting the older generation in her job with a social housing support team.
One of our candidates in St. Germain’s is young musician Jordan Turner. The former Bydales school pupil now performs professionally as Teesside’s King of Swing, appearing as a tribute to Michael Bublé in venues across Teesside and the North East. He is determined to give the youth of Redcar and Cleveland a focus point within the council chamber whilst working hard for every resident of his ward.
