Tree devastation in Guisborough

A big thank you to everyone who turned out for yesterday’s public meeting about the felling of all the trees off Meynell Avenue in Guisborough last week, which is clearly visible from The Avenue.

Everyone present made it clear how upset they are that their view has been spoiled, and the impact on all the birds and wildlife. We found a hedgehog that had been cut in two.

This is private land and so not a Council responsibility. However, there are rules that need to be followed when doing this kind of work - notably a proper environmental survey to protect nesting birds at this time of year.

Your Hutton ward councillors and I will be writing to the landowner, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and Natural England to ensure the rules have been followed.

In the video below, Councillor Graham Jeffery and I were joined by resident Allan Jackson to explain what’s happened.
