Two weeks ago I met the wonderful team from Keeping It Clean At Saltburn (pictured) to discuss their work fighting plastic pollution on our beach. This followed my meeting with Roy Smith from Saltburn Beachwatch, who do likewise.
Following this meeting I asked for talks with the British Plastics Federationabout what the industry is doing and how things can be improved. We met in Parliament yesterday.
There were lots of positive outcomes from this and we have now agreed to engage with Teesport to discuss how we can address the risk of spillages at the port. Antwerp has become the first port in the world to sign up to the industry standard - "Operation Clean Sweep" - and we want to discuss this with the port authorities.
I will keep you posted!
