Home Secretary Amber Rudd MP accepted Simon Clarke's invitation to come to Park End, Middlesbrough, today to restate the Government's commitment to tackling the antisocial behaviour that can make people's lives a misery.
Simon extends his thanks to ward councillors Jan Mohan and Brian Hubbard for hosting a great summit at which they set out some of their hopes and concerns direct to the minister. Simon and the Home Secretary were joined by the police, Marton West councillor Chris Hobson and the vicar of Hemlington, Robert Desics.
Earlier in the day, Simon met Jan and Brian at the Sandringham Road Play Area where he heard firsthand about the destructive vandalism that has damaged lots of the children's play area (pictured).
Simon has agreed to ask social housing providers to put pressure on persistent offenders and will work closely with Jan and Brian to ensure the police and council are delivering security for residents.
During her visit, the Home Secretary said:
'These were really useful talks with community leaders who set out the misery anti social behaviour can bring to an area. People in Middlesbrough have a great champion in Simon and can be reassured the Government is determined we will build on the progress that's seen crime fall by a third in the last seven years.'
