Parliament returns next week, and I’m working with the founder of The Big Issue, the amazing Lord John Bird, as a sponsor of his Creditworthiness Assessment Bill.
There are 15 million adults in this country renting in addition to those who own their home and pay a mortgage. At the moment, rental payments don’t count like mortgage payments when it comes to assessing your credit rating. This means that some of the poorest people in the country end up paying more to access credit – affecting everything from mobile phones to insurance.
In his video above, John sets out why his Bill will make such a difference, and I look forward to backing it in Parliament on 26 October. You can help raise awareness using the #MakeRentCount hashtag.
