Delivering Jobs and Growth

The South Tees Mayoral Development Corporation will transform the Teesside economy. I am lobbying ministers hard to ensure we receive the funding needed to clear up the former SSI site.

I also regularly visit businesses across Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland to ensure I have the best possible understanding of what employers need to create and sustain more jobs in our area.

Teesside on the rise

Over the last couple of years, we’ve become used to the drumbeat of good news stories about our local economy. Government backing for this giant new power station is another really important example.

Teesside Airport: A New Beginning

No story has captured our imagination more than the heroic work of Ben Houchen, our Tees Valley Mayor to rescue our airport.

That new future began this week. The Airport is now under our ownership, run by an excellent and ambitious commercial partner in Stobart.

Championing Our Area

After a phenomenal start to 2019, from saving Teesside Airport to sealing the deal for the Tata land in Redcar, it was good to pay tribute to our Tess Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen in Parliament yesterday. It was great to hear the Government's full support in reply!

A Critical Week for Teesside

I was on the BBC’s Sunday Politics with Middlesbrough Mayor Dave Budd yesterday. He refused to commit to supporting Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen’s plan to save our airport.

A Key Moment for Our Future

This time next week, the Labour leaders of the five Tees Valley councils will vote on the most significant investment package in Teesside in our lifetimes. There is no overstating the importance of this: what is on offer will be genuinely transformational.
