Tackling the Marton Crawl

The Marton Crawl is a nightmare for commuters, a burden for business and a danger to patients trying to get to James Cook Hospital.

We now have a great opportunity to alleviate the problem. The Government has created a new £1 billion annual fund to target congestion on our Major Road Network, which is an ideal source of funding to deliver a package of measures to ease the traffic flow.

Since his election in June, Simon has:

Held talks with Jesse Norman MP, the Roads Minister, to discuss how Middlesbrough Council can bid for support from the fund;
Met Middlesbrough Council’s transport chiefs to hear about the options they have available to address the problem;
Consulted Ben Houchen, the new Tees Valley Mayor, who has offered his full support; and
Written to Middlesbrough Mayor Dave Budd to urge him and Middlesbrough Council to put a bid together in the second half of this year, ready to submit when the fund opens in 2018.
