Brexit

Simon Clarke is committed to delivering the best possible Brexit deal for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland. With two-thirds of residents supporting Britain's exit from the European Union, the opportunities that Brexit provides for our area are huge, and Simon has pledged to ensure these opportunities are grasped.  He wants to see a liberal, free-trading Britain emerge after Brexit, with our laws made in Westminster and our borders controlled by the UK Government.

The video above shows Simon speaking about Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland and Brexit during the EU WIthdrawal Bill debate in the House of Commons (September 2017).

Telling truth to power in the Brexit debate

I campaigned and voted to leave the EU, and we must leave properly. The Prime Minister’s Brexit proposals risk leaving the U.K. trapped as a rule-taker from Brussels, needing the EU’s permission to escape the “backstop”. I believe this would be an historic mistake.

The Latest News on the Brexit Deal

I was a guest on BBC Tees this morning talking about the Prime Minister's Brexit deal. Please listen by clicking play above.

My Reaction to the Brexit Deal

Honouring my promise to the voters of Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland is my chief responsibility. Alone of the six MPs on Teesside, I have been steadfast in working to deliver the Brexit local people voted for overwhelmingly in 2016.

Bring Back Duty Free

In 1999, EU rules forced the UK to stop offering Duty Free within Europe. After Brexit in March, I think we should bring duty free back! It brought pleasure to millions of people and would boost jobs in airports and on ferries.

Delivering Brexit Properly

The crucial Brexit negotiations are entering their decisive phase. I told BBC's The Today Programme why we should go all out to secure a Canada style Free Trade Agreement that would deliver a strong trade deal with the EU and honour what people on Teesside voted for.

Holding the Government to account on Brexit

Ahead of the crucial Cabinet meeting at Chequers on Friday about our future relationship with the EU, Simon Clarke MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland pressed the Prime Minister to confirm that the UK will not find ourselves in a Norway-style situation after Brexit.

Like me, two-thirds of people here in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland voted to leave the EU. But five Labour MPs in the North East have just demanded a second referendum, and Labour’s top politicians won’t rule it out. They want to ignore us.
